Nginx で Reverse Proxy を立てた時のメモです。以下のようなものを作ります。
[Client] <-----> [proxy.example.com] <-----> [www.example.com]
「リバース」･プロキシーと呼ぶのは、もともと会社内などの閉じたネットワークから、インターネットへの HTTPリクエストを代理（プロキシー）としてとりまとめて「フォーワード」する「フォワード」プロキシーが先にでき、その反対という事で「リバース」という名前が付いたと言われています。
- インターネットの外に出て行くリクエストをフォワードするプロキシー → フォワード･プロキシー
- インターネットから入ってくるリクエストをまとめるプロキシー → リバース･プロキシー
どちらもリクエストをフォワードする機能面でみると同じですが、通称が異なってきます。
手順
1.DNS に proxy.example.com の A レコードを登録する (proxy 用のドメイン)
2.普通に nginxをインストールする (AWS Linuxを使用)
3.nginx.conf の中に以下のディレクティブを入れる (HTTP/HTTPS の両方がある場合は、HTTP/HTTPS両方に入れる）

4.nginxを再起動する
アクセスパスによって、リクエストのフォーワード先を変更できるので、パス毎に別のアプリケーションサーバーに処理をフォワードするような事が出来ます。
注意点
もし proxy の先の www.example.com が返してるコンテンツの HTML 内に、絶対パスで http://www.example.com/log.jpeg のように書き込まれていると、Client は、HTMLを読み込んだ後、HTML 内に書かれた URL に従って次のアクセスを発生させます。
そのため、HTML内にかかれたそのリクエストに関しては proxy を迂回してアクセスするようになります。動画のファイルなどは HTML のドメインとは別ドメインから配信されているケースがあるので、そのままのだと proxy を迂回してしまいます。

以下が最終的な proxy.example.com の nginx.conf です。
さらにフォワード先に、幾つかの HTTP Header を付けるようにしています。
